TutorChat team constists of Cardiff University students
Studying computer science where their second year group project evolves around building a virtual assistant "TutorChat" to help student's with their questions to personal tutors.
With the growth in social networking, mobile devices, and the internet of things, chatbots have become a viable and popular way of delivering services to users. Platforms such as Amazon’s Alexa, Apple’s Siri, Facebook, Slack and IBM’s Watson offer new ways for organizations to meet the needs of users via conversational interactions. In this context, we pose the question: to what extent can a university provide personal tutoring services to students via a chatbot? Areas to explore include: answering common questions, performing tasks, and providing friendly social interaction. The aim of the project is not to replace human tutors but rather to explore use cases where conversational bot-based services can augment human-provided support.
